He Who Must Not Be Named

Between having to wake up 2 hours before my first class just to catch a bus there (which really freaking sucks by the way, especially compared to like... longboarding to class 2minutes before it starts) and freaking out over what's going on with my course schedule this week, I was lucky enough that my Wednesdays are completely free! :D It's kind of a nice break in the middle of the week, so on this "mini weekend", my friends and I decided to do a harry potter themed exploration sorta. Our first stop was the graveyard, Greyfriars Kirk. Kim read online that Tom Riddle's grave was here. Not like a fake tombstone made in honor of the Harry Potter series, but the burial place of an actual person whose name inspired JK Rowling when she was writing the books. The graveyard itself was absolutely beautiful, so we weren't in a huge rush to find it, but eventually while scanning through all the names, I finally found it!

Okay so it's spelled a little differently from in the books, but still. We weren't entirely positive if that was the right grave, so we lingered for a little till the tour group nearby came up to it and the guide started talking about Harry Potter. Yayy mission complete! After that we went to the next super famous Harry Potter site- The Elephant House, where it all started. To be completely honest, it was a little anticlimactic. The only thing it had to do with Harry Potter was this sign that said "Birthplace of Harry Potter" in a really obnoxious font (jokerman. blegh). I got a little distracted on the walk back to our flat by the word "chocolatier" on a cafe on the side of the road though so we decided to check it out... I love bakeries. and chocolate. way too much. >___>; I kinda felt bad for just eating the cake samples they had there, so I got a dark chocolate mint truffle. Sooo yummy. Trying to be less of a hobo.

I have a serious problem. It involves boots. In the past two days I've acquired three new pairs of boots... no joke. I have a total of seven now including the ones back home. On the bright side, two pairs aren't black!! Hahahaha. And the pair that are, I got for free at the fresher's free market this morning (think lower crotch, but 20x bigger, and you need to line up in a queue/aka a line to get in. it was ridc). Soooo that pair doesnt *really* count right? I felt a little skeevy just taking shoes that once belonged to someone else but just kinda forced myself not to think about it too much.

...I feel like my brain is sort of going to mush since my greatest concerns have been "ohmygod i have too many shoes" or "agh what should i wear today i have like no clothes -___-". Seriously though, EVERYONE dresses nicer here... or at least that's how I feel. Even guys take a lot of care in how they dress and in their hair... including straight guys. My flatmate told me her boyfriend spends more time on his hair than she does sometimes, and it's normal for guys to use hair straighteners.... which kind of screams gay in the US. Haha maybe it's a good thing classes are starting soon. :| I sortakinda miss feeling like a nerd.

That probably wasn't that kind of update people were hoping for... haha. I'll try to put up pictures of my room or do a video tour thingy after I finally finish decorating it and clean up a little. >___<;; Oh oh! And even though I'm wearing my california winter clothes right now, there's been sun!! :D well, there have been days of drizzly cold windy weather too, but I've definitely woken up to sunshine streaming through my windows several times this week. It makes me happy. ALSO, I FOUND BOBA HERE. ITS AROUND THE CORNER 5 MINUTES FROM MY FLAT. FUCKYES :D I'll post an asian rant later. with pictures. :P Well until next time, cheers! (:

Yayy I made it in one piece! :D Nothing went wrong! I'm too tired to actually write everything that happened... but so far, from the 5 hours I've been here and the 2.5hrs spent wandering around aimlessly with one of my flatmates, I've already seen

1. a full grown man in a maid dress
2. another guy in a giant penis costume

this city is weird.
